  5. Something to keep in mind: The US military has done numerous scenarios in war games about what if someone, usually Russia, uses nukes for years now. They usually do not strike back with a nuke in order to not continue to escalate the situation, even if it’s against a nato country, but instead escalate the conventional part of the war. People love playing the Fallout games, but no one wants to live in it.

  8. As much as it makes sense for the US to lean into the current situation, I understand American frustration with many European states. Things like the EU promising 1 million artillery shells in 2023 but only delivering ~300 thousand shows that many European leaders are not taking the threat seriously.

  9. Western governments have relationships based on stability and trust (to fulfill delivery contracts). That is no longer the case with Russia. Due to Russia using natural gas supply politically, it's very unlikely that Europe will be back as a repeat customer for Russia without actively seeking alternatives. While in the short term, Russia will have "won" as Europe needs immediate supply of energy products, ultimately, the western stance is unlikely to change. There is no benefit in maintaining a relationship anymore for Western Europe with all of the risks of dealing with Russia. It's doubtful Russia will be forgiven this time outside of a fundamental regime change. The economic changes this time are permanent.

I'm old enough to remember when Japan was the "next" economic super power, Mexico was about to take off as economic power, nobody mentioned China, and Europe was about to become completely irrelevant. Long term economic predictions are usually poor at best. Based on track records I'm optimistic that Germany and Europe will reinvent themselves economically as a result of this current reset.

At the beginning of the war there were 40 million of us, after the mass migration there were less than 30 left, but acting as a defense party and not sending people into meat assaults every day, we do not need to mobilize everyone from the age of 18, as the West says. We have a rather old army, most of the soldiers are aged 30-40, which already numbers more than a million soldiers, increasing the number of people at the front will not give anything, because without aircraft and shells for artillery we cannot conduct a large-scale offensive. We will not do as Russia does, but will insist on increasing technical support. We do not need peacekeepers or expeditionary forces, we only need weapons.

  14. This Ukraine war has been a fascinating experience for me. I'm a 21 year old, so I've never really experienced any world shaking moments in history. I was too young to remember 9/11 or Iraq or the financial crisis. I read in history books about the world wars, Vietnam, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the toppling or the Berlin Wall or the disintegration of the USSR. It's an odd experience to be living through a momentous moment in history. I turn on the news and watch in real-time events that will one day be recorded in history books.

One small critique: I found it more difficult in this video than previous ones to distinguish when the speaker was quoting someone rather than speaking for himself. Various cues like noticeably changing the speaker's cadence, putting quoted text on screen, inserting more "he wrote" and "he said" into the script, or literally having more speakers might help.

  23. Yeah, I'm with Rochan. Ukraine isn't going to stop just because of winter. Slow down maybe, but probably not as much as people imagine. Ukraine knows that Russia desperately needs a pause during the winter to reconstitute its forces, hence why the Russians have been talking more about a temporary ceasefire recently, and so Ukraine won't allow that to happen. It's going to be a miserable time for the invaders.

Not only will Ukraine have the opportunity to leverage its raw materials, at the end of this conflict the West will almost certainly provide a massive amount of aid to help Ukraine rebuild similar to the US Marshall plan. This is what will cement Ukraine as firmly oriented towards the West going forward, even if Russia is able to force them to commit to neutrality on paper.

  33. The most important thing to note is that the western price cap is working, Urals oil is selling for below the cap even in non participating nations like India. This is huge, at this moment the west has more control over Russian oil prices than Russia does which doesn’t happen to major oil producing states very often. If they continue to slowly lower it overtime it may actually be the easiest way to damage the Russian economy going forward

  39. It's also kinda surprising to see my usually pro-russian Slovakia kick in such high gear to help Ukraine. We sent a crap ton of our equipment, our only long range AA system (the s-300), we have offered to take ukranian vehicles for repair in our territory (the ones we know how to use so btrs, bvp-1 and 2s, truck$ etc.), our president has created an independent unit to help monitor/register all war crimes to help with proving that they happened and the offer for the mig-29s is once again on the table. Can't say I'm complaining though. Sláva ukrajine! 🇺🇦 🇸🇰
