  1. I think you are doing so great. I base this by seeing my son, A Master Carpenter and Foreman in Union 608 (their motto is 608 drunk and late). So, it is bitter sweet watching you. My son worked on all the skyscrapers in NYC including the new World Trade Freedom Tower. He would walk along beams 100 floors up with a harness never blinking. He could build anything. I am proud of him and have all his hard hats. He died recently in his early 40's. He was my only son, my soul, my life. He was gifted and a great husband, father, son, brother, friend. You remind me of him sooo much. That is a compliment. Rob would think your doing great and you really know how to use the tools good. ❤❤😊😊😊

I did it for 11 years and a few months, saved $150,000.00 from disability payments, after a stroke that landed me in a hospital, took those YMCA therapy in pool classes, helped with my situation, still in wheelchair, but I can do more than most, bought a 32 foot sailboat and now live-aboard, when I'm not sailing her....😛

  10. FYI - Safeway (and their related stores) has a website where you can place a grocery order and then they wil bring it out to your van when it's ready. Helpful for when you're sick. Hope you feel better soon!

He had his door open parked at the grocery store and I saw he had a counter and sink in there and a foldaway bed. It reminded me of you right away. 6 years nice man, dedication.   17. It's really not about the size of the space, but how that space makes you feel. We want more space, because we tend to accumulate things, and instead of saying, hey, do I really need this, we just keep it. This journey to think differently, didn't start with my van conversion, but it has definitely speed up the process. I aren't halfway done with my conversion, but during the "wait" I implement the lifestyle into my daily life. Making my own separation toilet from scratch, and leftovers I had in the house. Boiling water and washing myself with just water in a bowl. Planning, with the thought on how I actually use the space in my house. (there's a lot of time spent on the couch watching youtube and such) It's all about being aware of your own mind, and how much you don't actually use on a daily basis.

  38. Simple living (in general) and Van life (in particular) give you the freedom to take time to genuinely live. I think Thoreau was right when he said, "the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” So many of us are just struggling to exist (or worse yet "succeed") in a system that does not care one iota about our well-being. The older I get the more I realize that anything resembling an authentic life requires us to free ourselves (to the extent that we can) from this system.

Been living in the van for over 10 yrs now..never had a gym membership..that's not saying I haven't had a shower in all that time 😉 No matter the method you use..it's fairly simple to keep clean living in a van. I know people living in a house with a shower and laundry that don't keep as clean 🤪
