  1. Several cities are using very similar size sheds as tiny houses to help combat homelessness. They're just big enough to put in a twin size bed and some shelves. Making an A/C inlet wouldn't be too hard. Solar on the roof and even small RV sized windows on either of the side walls to let in natural light - So do-able! Why more communities aren't doing this is mind blowing.

  3. Sounds like your wife left you leaving you bitter and angry. Even if that is the case it is no excuse for spewing hatred and false information. Kat's husband died after suffering terribly for 10 years from a painful debilitating illness which caused him to be on a colostomy bag and gain two hundred pounds. This woman took care of him and stuck by his side cleaning up after his accidents for that entire time. His illness and care is what burned thru their assets. Shortly after his death she was diagnosed with cancer and other serious health issues. But she has no wife to care for her. She was with thr same and only man from her late teens until his death decades later.

  6. I have watched the homeless situation and from personal experience know that their is too much money being made off of it for anyone in government to resolve it. It will never end and people in many charities and government are pocketing a fortune off of it. There will never be answers until we audit the money trail and hold agencies accountable for their expenditures.

This lady is not only having to contend with the fear of being homeless but also having to cope with illness. I really feel for Kat. I hope things improve for her soon.

  8. People are growing colder and colder EVERYWHERE. I'm 64 and our world is not the same as our hearts are. People are desperate in the first place but now not only are they desperate but dangerous too. We can no longer assume that we're safe. Not living in fear, but living very aware of the dangers that can quickly happen. So sorry that happened to you and your daughter.

We have a couple of swings and a small play structure for our granddaughters who used to live with us, available for play!!!

  22. I'm 74 now, been retired since the age of 62. I live completely alone and love every minute of it. If I had known what solitude would be like, I would have never married and just lived alone all my life. I don't understand why people get lonely since I'm NEVER lonely... or at least the condition that people explain as loneliness. I enjoy my own company, studying, playing an occasional classical piano concert, walking/hiking in the wilderness where I've lived for the past 10 years (trying to get away from society) and teaching online classes in survival skills. My days are crammed full of the most interesting things that make me happy to be unburdened by society.

  31. it's not just seniors. I'm a disabled vet and I applied for and received section 8 housing voucher. I was hired 3 days before the final interview to go over the paper work. I was soo happy that I got a job but the social worker wasn't too much. She was happy that I got a job but the minimum an hour at the time job disqualified me from section 8. So now I'm just living in my car. Will be living in a van till I die I think and I'm ok with that. I own my car/home and make my own power.

  33. I fell into a circumstance at age 65+ that ended up being the best thing ever. My aunt asked me to housesit for her for several months and I got to be friends with the 98 year old (!) man next door. He still had all his marbles and was physically active but going blind and really needed someone to drive for him, cook, find things he'd lost and read his mail for him; just everyday things that came up all the time. When my aunt returned he asked me to move in with him; he lived another almost 4 years and the money I saved on housing in that time enabled me to buy a modest house, free and clear. The need is great for senior care positions and if the personalities mesh it can be a joy.

  37. My Mother was dying from cancer in 2014. One day I was at work when my brother called me and told me she had stopped breathing. I asked my boss if I could leave early (I had finished my major duties that had to be done, the other duties I could finish at a later date) and she said "of course." My mother recovered, hospice was called etc and she lived for another 3 weeks. The next day after I had left work early, however, my employer called me into her office and said to me "I'm letting you go but you can come back after things calm down" My mouth dropped open. I said "what?! You mean when she passes away?" I was just really in disbelief of what was happening, denial that my Mom was dying even. Just all of it. My boss lied to me, it wasn't okay to leave, obviously. I still to this day feel like it was all a bad dream, a crazy nightmare. I was so confused, mentallyexhausted. Of course my Mother was my priority but I also needed my job. I've always worked hard, always above and beyond and even came in on my days off to cover other employee shifts because they called in sick, etc. But that didn't matter. Everyone at that time was replaceable. I was told it was okay to leave early and then the very next day I was let go. Two months later the business shut down. She was obviously having hardships at the time. But so much grief and I was also shocked from losing my job I couldn't think straight. Some people should NOT be managers, supervisors or directors. Completely heartless. Life happens. And death. RIP Mom, I miss you every day. ❤

Ever since then, I have been paranoid about someone moving in. My fears are they could be violent or refuse to leave if we didn't get along. I have heard the squatter horror stories.

One thing people don't understand when they hear how much SS they may receive is that amount quoted does not reflect your having to pay for Medicare Part B which is currently $148.50 a month but is going to increase to $170.10 per month. I Downsized my life since the 2008 recession, i divorced in 1998...and started downsizing my life and then retired in 2010 due to an accident....i retired from State Service with full benefits and moved to a nice, large, maintain apartment in a great county.. I live my life nice, simple healthy, and eat a mostly plant based way of eating, maintaining my yearly health maintenance, I walk daily pray daily, i do squats daily, light hand weights...there is a swimming pool and is very nicely well maintained, quiet, clean, only 6 apartments in a building..its a small complex....many residents are retired, the complex is surrounded by homeowners..its nice...i stay away from debt, live comfortably, I'm not on any medications, still drive my well maintained 2011 kio rio 68,200 miles...no aches, pain, illnesses, etc...im spirtual , pray daily, read the Bible daily, and im really blessed...❤
