  3. The main reason France crumpled in Mali is that they were eventually seen as occupiers, colonialists even. The distrust and hatred only intensified when they couldn't root out the IS out of the country after a decade plus of intervention. Wagner and Russian help was seen as a new hope, and Wagner being aggressive in their campaigns definitely showed impressive results in the short term. But as we all know in the big picture that nothing is free, Russia will want something in return for that security but Mali won't know the terms until much later.

Afghan is such a complex issue, they are a tribal system, my friend was from the north eastern part of Afghanistan, during the soviet occupation they assisted the soviets and when the soviets pulled out they were the first to be purged and the giant Buddha statue was blown up, many of his uncles were taken and killed. He managed to smuggle himself from there in the early 2000s to south east Asia as refugee, applied for Australian refugee and had to smuggle himself again because the process was taking so long

Housing, hospitals, law enforcement, NGO’s, - everything.   30. The military should be a meritocracy not a social experiment. Its hard for women to be inclusive in combat arms for obvious reasons like no privacy and what not. It just creates way more problems than the problems it solves. I still believe that women excel at certain roles than men do.

Yes, any company that runs anywhere near or in China is 51% owned by the CCP. Also, national security isn't being hypocritical. It's called being a nation. As for China not having influence - there is a literal "Heat" button that the CCP can click on to make ANY video go viral. There are different ways to wage war and this is one of them.

  37. A true story that happened to a friend of mine- after years of school requests, he finally had a slot to go to ANCOC. His biggest problem - at that particular time they went solely on the Height/Weight- no taping- it was make weight or go home. He dieted relentlessly and did 2x his PT for 3 months prior to his school date. On the Friday before, he weighed 3 lbs below his limit 2 days of driving later, he checked in to the schoolhouse- and just for giggles, stepped on the scales there- and he was 3lbs over ...... Knowing full well there was no way he could lose that weight overnight- he thought it over,and if he could gain an inch in height he would be ok. Remembering you are measured in stocking feet, he went to the local store and bought a box of panty liners and placed a pile of them inside his sock. He passed the height/weight.....

  42. As an Army Recruiter, I really don't think it's a recruitment issue. It's a retention issue, just as you stated. If we worked on the issues that push good soldiers away from the service. Recruiters wouldn't be required to find more souls to replace them. We are literally losing more people than we can put in. I've had to watch good dudes leave because of how the Army treated them. Hopefully, a few good leaders stay in long enough to implement serious changes. As of now, the overlords currently running shit don't plan on being that change. I hope to be part of the change when I am done with recruiting next year. At the very least, I could make the Army suck a whole lot less and seem more rewarding for dudes.

  44. 2:54 I was an engineer officer who happened to have an engineering degree. When I joined, I had zero plans of ever using my degree again, but I ended up getting an assignment with USACE (they have a developmental program for CGOs with engineering degrees) and working on construction projects. I enjoyed it so much, I ended up leaving active duty and going to work for USACE as a civilian!

But honestly I feel like we should secure that place because any wagner/russian presence is never a good sign.   49. I'm prime enlistment age, 20 years of age, and I can tell you the main reason I never considered the military is my dad. (And other vets.) My dad would tell me things about how he and some of his buddies were treated, and other vets I know would also tell me how they were treated after they came back from active duty. My dad never saw combat, and he was treated fairly well, but he knew vietnam era vets who weren't, and then he started to get to know Iraq and Afghanistan vets who were just as badly treated. Tell me, just why the hell do I want to be spit on, treated like dirt, and ignored by the institutions i went to go risk my life for? I've met several vets, and seen several vets online, all have some kind of story about how bad things like the VA are, or how horrible people can be towards veterans. I'm not getting shot at just to get spit on when I come back.

  50. I almost got kicked out of the Army before I even shipped to basic because I couldn't meet the qualification time for the mile run of 8 mins 30 secs. I was running outdoors, in the Mojave, in July so it made the run test borderline torture but i passed the last time I tried by a full Minute. I get to Basic, and i ran a 14 minute 2 mile. As my service went on, i got slower but was still passing and still had to to remedial PT because my First Sgt was such a hard ass. I fought like hell when it ae to the physical standards, so this move by the Army just pisses me off
