some thoughts. These grabby headlines tend to over exaggerate, I would like to see how many soldiers in this statistic failed height and weight, but passed tape. I would also like to see where these soldiers come from if this is the case, if its all from active duty.... we have a big problem, if its from the entire US Army, which is from the Active, Guard and the Reserves, 10,000 out of 1,000,000.... eh, its problem but its nothing to panic about, yet. 2ndly the big fat problem is two fold. American food is awful, and cheaper the food, the more sugar carbs and fat it will have, this is why poor people are fat, and soldiers aren't exactly rich. With food being expensive, the government spends lowest amount of money possible to fill the mess halls and supply trucks for soldiers in the field and garrison. If we are serious about this problem, this needs to change, if that means axing a contract from one of the arms merchants to pay for this, then so be it. Outside the military the FDA needs to be overhauled. Many types of food that are banned in Europe and Japan for health reasons and allowed to be sold here. That will need to change to get the weight down for the entire US Population.
