  26. I don't look at this stuff as replacing developers, but rather giving us some tools to make us more productive. Using an LLM to scaffold up a rough app idea and then fleshing it out by hand would still be faster than writing everything from the ground up in most cases.

  34. 8:07 just a quick tip: click over the name of the function and then click over the light-bulb then select move to a new file, this will move the whole function to a new file and VS Code will take care of all of the import statements.

  35. Nothing like seeing a team that clearly has an interest in keeping a decent performance on their site. Old looking site which is actually running React 17.0.2 under the hood (March '21). Lots of techniques that are really a part of the platform. The sprites were an interesting pic seeing that new protocols (H2/H3) make it unnecessary if not an actual anti pattern. Great video Wes! We love to see it! 🙃

  37. Sweet demo flow. I must steal your "add matrix audio" part for my workshop demos 😎 Agent keeps iterating on the same file is an issue we've been tracking, I kept hitting that as well the past days and it's probably just a prompt tweak fix away. Watching it going back to the same file for just-another-thing makes it not just slow but gives it this human yak-shaving vibe. Expect it to be fixed soon. To undo a turn use the delete button, but we need to improve UX for that flow. Terminal output issue is partially that it has 2 modes for terminal execution and picked the one where it only checks the output after a short delay. For me agent mode did notice port issues and kill them for me a few times. It might have just worked if you retried. Burke got the bug filed on that, as the other comment showed. Last thing I observed is that having terminal open and text selected should just be pulled into the context, basically treat it like editor code. Started tracking that as well.

  41. A super practical example that may be of use to everyone here... When the PS5 was first released (this may even be relevant today because they're still like gold dust, right?) I wrote a script for a few different websites that refreshed the page every couple of seconds, checked if it was available to buy / in stock, and if it was, I added it to the basket and and alerted myself with a browser alert and changing the colour of the screen to bright green so it caught my eye, meaning I could check out immediately! Not only did I get myself a PS5 day 1, but I was also able to purchase 2 more from other retailers for my friends who were struggling!

  44. You know what I appreciate most about this type of YouTube vid. It’s real. If you ask any developer how long this would take to solve they all tell you, easy five minutes max. You know that’s not true. It never is. But it adds to the anxiety for newer devs when they hear that. Seeing an individual with your reputation in our industry doing this for real shows that even simple sounding operations take time to think through, work it out, and eventually solve. I love these un-edited real time dev snippets. I personally am now going to play around some more with map and reduce in JS. This just looks fun.

  47. Great tips on using grid for stacking and the value of `visibility: hidden`. Instead of using aria-label on the span, it's better to use <img alt="Saving item" …>. aria-label only works properly on elements with roles that expect a name and even then, client-side machine translation tends not to work on that attribute (but does work on alt attributes). Unfortunately, screen readers don't properly respond to the names of elements dynamically changing so it's typically necessary to also have an ARIA live region to announce state changes.
