But, like every nation, China is a complex tapestry—both beautiful and flawed in equal measure.   6. Wow 20:00 The unrestored wall was like white snake crawling on the top of the mountain ridge. 20:11 the clouds were opening up just enough to see the Wall! How could the wall be built on such a narrow and sharp ridge! You really climbed up to very high to be able to see such a breathtaking view. Incredibly magnificent views! I wish the scene were slower and longer. This moment made the hike in the miserable rain, the unfortunate scene less view of the wall shrouded in mist the previous day and the scary and uncomfortable camping night all worth it. China is not an easy place to do what you did. Thank you deeply for taking such great effort to bring us to this beautiful moment!

Primarily use your rear brake, stay off the front brakes on loose gravel/dirt No front brakes during turns Loosen up your hand grip, utilize your legs more. Standing up, elbows out, butt back, be loose and put your weight thru the foot pegs! Lean a bit further back on the bike while going downhill on loose gravel/dirt (NO FRONT BRAKE) Absolutely love your channel, YouTube needs more content like yours!!!

  17. Wow, I’ve watched countless videos about traveling in China and Xinjiang recently, but yours is on a whole different level. Backpacking in Xinjiang is truly incredible. I was born in Urumqi, so I’m a local with some Uyghur language, but I couldn’t even imagine doing something like this, until about 5-6 years ago. Xinjiang used to be extremely dangerous because of dissidents, robbers, and dishonest traders. As a local male growing up there, I never trusted anyone who approached me. But in recent years—especially in the past decade—Xinjiang has become the safest region in China. The cashless society and surveillance cameras have changed the minds of thieves, and while dishonest traders are still around, they can no longer force or threaten anyone. Watching this video has made me a bit emotional. Thank you for taking me back to my hometown and showing me how much it has changed.

Your down-to-earth style is so refreshing! I’m an American-born Chinese who has been to China many times and it’s always disappointing seeing how mainstream media portrays it in the West. Videos like yours are important in cutting through so much of that BS and humanizing an entire country filled with amazing people!   35. Hey Mike, for your own safety, NEVER CLIMB THE GREAT WALL ON RAINY DAYS. NEVER. The wall is usually built on the top of the mountain, and you are the perfect attraction point of lightning when you stand on it. There are tourists dying on the wall almost every year because of lightning strikes. Moreover, the temperature on the mountain can drop very fast at night, and you may lose heat and freeze to death. This is no joking, some Japanese campers died because of the freezing temperature a few years ago.

  39. Oh man, you're really brave! Hiking alone outdoor can be quite dangerous because of the significant temperature differences between day and night. And Xinjiang is a vast province with large areas uninhabited land, so hiking alone there is really unsafe. If you encounter any trouble, it's best call the police without hesitation.

  42. Imagine the hardship generations of chinese worked and died building the Great Wall. Also as a soldier on the watch tower, freezing cold in the night. I have visited both eastern and western end of the Great Wall in Jiayuguan Pass, the end of ancient Chinese empire, connected by this 4000km Great Wall. Amazing and humbling. Thru all these millennia of wars and suffering, chinese have learned Peace, re Confucious teachings. God Bless China.
