I am 66, have been married to my first wife for 43 years, have two wonderfully stable children, and feel uniquely blessed. I recently retired from a job that I held for 38 years. I have many pleasant memories of work, colleagues, and accomplishments. With that said, I was growing up, but not living. In retirement now, I do have the opportunity to start again. I can do what I want, when I want. I have taken on two jobs, one just to have pocket money, the other to give back. Yet, I am a product of my upbringing, when I do feel time to rest and regroup, it is around family. Throughout my years on this planet, I would say the most important thing one will ever be privileged and humbled to have, next to the Almighty Himself, is a relationship with family. Never lose that would be my counsel.

Male, 58. I loved myself up until puberty, then my face changed and I believed I was unattractive. Well, it didn't help when others, even my own mother, made negative comments about my appearance. Even though my body was rock hard and muscular, I still didn't feel attractive, always shy, and introverted. I did end up having plastic surgery which improved my confidence significantly. Sadly, many don't love themselves due to being ridiculed, this leaves scars often leading to self hatred and the inability to love oneself.

Mr. Burrows hello! I found you through the viral video you speak of! I loved every second of it, you’re such a brilliant character and I’m grateful that you do what you do, and that I’m able to come along for the ride. The nerves will calm but see it this way, we’re not tuning in looking for you to perform, we’re there for you to drop in on us like if you were having a conversation round the table with your friends, of course we excitedly await the vids but don’t stack any unnecessary weight upon your shoulders, we’re happy going on your time! Also I think it’s excellent that you dedicate so much effort to staying in shape at your age, as evidently, a lot of the population don’t, but through you I can see to such an extent, the benefits of it!!

Appreciate the video. I think what resonated with me the most is the part where you mentioned that when we love ourselves we share that love. Rather than loving others for some sense of return. I'm a therapist, I participate in my own therapy. One thing I've been wrestling with at 37 is maintaining a sense of identity. I'm always authentic. But the authenticity lacks substance if that makes sense. I told my therapist when he asked, I have had moments when I liked myself. But I've never loved myself. I've managed to achieve some success in academics at this later stage of my life and I've managed to have some good jobs. But I think it may have been for an ego push. To show myself and others I could do it. But now what? I'm a therapist and I'm actually expected to help people, and a lot of days I feel inadequate. My love for being social has turned to anxiety. I dread having to interact with folks and as a social worker, that's a problem lmao. I've been thinking, do I like therapy or do I like the idea of therapy? Meaning, do I like to actually deal with drama or do I like the idea of storytelling, creating the drama, sharing how folks can heal from their struggles, and raising awareness on certain issues? I've always wanted to be a creative. Work in film and writing. I'm just at a point where, I want to say my educational journey was for a reason. But maybe I'm neglecting a huge part of it and maybe that's why I feel out of sorts?

Hello Mr. Jim,
I've seen this video randomly today and I think I needed it today.
I'm unemployed for a full year, I don't have any work and I HATE myself because I have a 1.9 (almost 2) year old kid and a wife and I can't even afford to pay bills now. I can't take care of my child like I want to, I don't know what to do.
People say that I'm 30 years old now and I don't have an income setup, I don't have savings, I don't have my own home, car...etc, even my own brother says this. Which is enough to demotivate me.
I've been thinking of taking my own life because I hate my life.
Like you said in the video "You must love yourself". I want to do that. I used to love myself I used to play video games and go for a bike ride, I used to do things I love and like. Now my priority is my wife and my kid and for that I've sold my bike, I've sold my ps5 & steam deck, I've spent my savings because of 1 whole year of unemployment.
I don't know what to do..
Any advice, any words, anything you have for me please let me know.
I'm dead broke, hard to even buy my baby's diapers and milk, no one to help me, I've taken many loans...
I want to live for my kid because I love him so much and my wife.

Great one Jim!
I really appreciated your video. The way you talked about critics and why we should ignore them really hit the nail on the head.
I’m leaving my job soon because the constant criticism has become unbearable. They’re always giving feedback, but the issue is, they don’t even know where to start. I’ve been juggling five different roles at once, and somehow, I’m still “not the right fit.” It’s frustrating, and honestly, I’m tired of the passive-aggressive comments. Like, this one colleague who, just before I’m about to leave, will sarcastically say, “Nice one, man! One more project to go!” with a fake laugh. I’ve had enough of that. The first time, I didn’t say anything, but later in a meeting, he said it again, and I finally asked, “What’s so funny? Want me to laugh along?” Suddenly, there was complete silence.
The thing is, critics like this aren’t helpful. They rarely look at themselves and just throw out their opinions without any real understanding of the situation. I’ve always been confident—never insecure—but for a long time, I’d hold back, afraid of upsetting people. What did I get in return? Nothing. I was seen as weak, someone with no backbone.
But over the last few weeks, I’ve started speaking up, every single time. I respect others’ opinions, but if I’m not 100% okay with something, I’ll voice it. Like this coworker who always waits until I’m about to leave at 5 to ask me questions, but then completely ignores me the rest of the day. So, I told him, “I’ll take a look tomorrow. I’m heading home now and food’s ready.” Firm, but respectful.
I’ve got five days left, and I’m not looking back. Critics like this just don’t matter. I’ve learned that standing up for myself and ignoring these pointless criticisms is the only way forward.
Thanks again for the video, Jim. It really helped me put things into perspective.

Hello, what a struggle, trying to find purpose in life without inquiring to the creator. King Solomon had it all and concluded his life by saying: Ecclesiastes 12: "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments: For this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil." God to the deepest part of your soul and spirit. Hebrews 4: "For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do" Find a Bible friend, open it and read.

I'm 46, Got rid of 95% of friends years ago. I prefer my own company, have no social media besides YouTube. I no longer care what people think of me, I don't care for status either. I have 5 kids and they are all i need. Besides my wife parents and brother also. I lost my job because of my back and recently had a spinal fusion. I don't care about gossip, whos doing what or going where. I just don't care at all. I don't watch the news either. I stay home with the family, visit my parents and brother, i go fishing, camping, do gardening, cars, electronics.
One thing I'd really love is to be able to by my family a home. Thats all other than that i have all i need. Death doesn't bother me, I'm glad life is short because i really don't want to be here for to long. Life is always hard no matter what you have or how healthy you are.

I love your insight. However, it is hard for people to change. Most of us are change-resistant. Even if the status-quo sucks, even if deep down inside, you know you are miserable, you are just scrambling, emotionally, to make it to the next day. But you don't change, because for most of us, change requires moving our arses and trying to figure out what went wrong, and that requires change. And boy, change is scarier than the most miserable constant in our lives. So what we do is continue to sleep-walk through our lives, lying to yourselves that one day, when we get that promotion, when the kids grow up, when we retire, then suddenly life will change by itself for the better, sweep us off our feet and carry us to a fulfilling paradise. As if life somehow owes us something. I always hear the phrase, oh, time flies so fast, this and that which happened years ago felt like it happened yesterday. Of course it did, if we were on auto-pilot all this time.

This is so true,it all boils down to not to be selfish and spend your time wisely, think what legacy you will be leaving behind. Genuinely care ,acknowledge other people, and make the difference each day. Look at yourself in the mirror and say: today I'm going to make a difference. You see all these lessons we learn originates from somewhere, all successful leaders and persons, got this from somewhere,I don't care if you are religious or non religious, but if you really take time and study scripture in the bible and apply it,you will realise all systems came from scripture, all success and other religions who wants to do good comes from the bible.

Thanks for sharing Jim. And to be real candid, must of us who are post 40, we heard at least at one point or another, someone, our senior, tell or urge us "NOT TO WASTE TIME", " MAKE IT ALL COUNT FOR GOOD", but young vitality tends to fool folk into believing that you have all the time in the world. And that's simply NOT true. I say seize the time we now have and use it wisely. Help the younger generations to focus on what truly ought to matter to them in life and give them, reasonably, an ear to listen and help guide them...all IS NOT LOST, but time; it's going even now as I type this and you read it...

Ok, hear me out. The purpose is the eternal life.
If you don't make the eternal life your purpose then your life here and now has no meaning. Your struggles, your sorrows, your joy, your pain, your opinions etc. have no meaning because it all ends the moment you die. And then what?
If you don't desire the eternal life then what's the point of all of this?
Please, please, PLEASE (and I can't stress it enough!) accept Jesus and invite Him into your life and heart. It will be the best decision you will EVER make!
Time here in this life is given to you to get to know Jesus, to have a true, personal relationship with Him and to follow Him.
Please, please don't ignore this! This is the only real purpose - the eternal life with God in heaven. Turn to Jesus today!

Thank you for this great content Sir!
I am a 36-year-old man, and I consider myself below average in terms of height and facial attractiveness. Perhaps it's presumptuous, but my goal is to marry a beautiful woman and start a family.
I have worked as an insurance planner, and although I didn’t earn much money, that experience has made me want to succeed as a financial consultant. That’s why, despite my age, I have decided to become a CPA and am studying hard. However, lately, I’ve been wondering if even becoming a CPA would be enough for me to meet such a woman.
When I was 26, I had relationships and occasionally had the chance to date attractive women. But now, I feel that my age and limitations are becoming more apparent, making me lose confidence and feel hopeless. The silver lining is that I am healthy, debt-free, and not experiencing hair loss.
Do you have any advice for me?

@Jim_Burrows_Thrives Nice to hear an appreciative response. Jim, time is precious. I started reading the scriptures in about 2008. I self declared myself as a "Christian" in 2009. I figured that's what it took. Talk about wasting time because that was a false conversion. My life didnt really change until I truly got born again in early 2019.
Jim make sure if you really want to spend the eternity of time in joy and never having regrets ultimately that your conversion is true. Most conversions are false, usually based on good works, Calvinist predestination, the charismatic movement and whole host of false beliefs. A true believer fights with sin and is not comfortable with sin, it vexes him and he perpetually seeks to weed it out of his life, often seeking help from the Lord to do so
The other acid test is that do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt where you are going after you die regardless of whatever may happen.
So you should be at war with sin and at peace knowing God has reserved a mansion for you in his house for eternity.
Read this one over carefully,
You should be fully confident in what verse 13 says;
1 John 5 KJV
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God;*** that ye may know that ye have eternal life,*** and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him

Hi Jim!
I really enjoyed your video—it was a great watch, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective on self-respect and inner happiness. I’m a bit younger than you, but I’ve been struggling with something similar.
I used to be quite assertive, sometimes too much, and I ended up hurting people. As a result, I’ve become very passive, almost to the point where I feel stuck in a crisis I can’t seem to get out of. I’m caught between these two extremes—if I try to be more assertive and practice setting boundaries, people think I’m rude or disrespectful. That’s been a real challenge for me.
The thing is, I have a lot of self-love, I’m confident, and I genuinely respect others. I’m polite, but I’m not weak. Unfortunately, many people seem to mistake kindness for weakness, which makes navigating this balance even harder.
Thanks again for the video—it was really insightful!

I’m fortunate enough to be able to read & listen to a lot of podcasts, books etc most days on nutrition & health! & the majority of experts agree that we should be eating more plant based. Vegetables, fruit, lentils, beans etc…
90% of meals I cook , quit alcohol, soft drinks, minimal processed foods. Also focus on 7-8 sleep 😴, daily movement/ exercise 😊
some podcasts I recommend!

Wow, sometimes you think you are the only one going through difficulties and then you read these stories. At 45 I had built a company that was worth about five million dollars. I spent 10 years, starting in 1998, with a plan to build it up and sell it in 2008. Well, we all know what happened in 2008! Not only did I lose the company but my house as well. I'm 61 now and still haven't fully recovered. Bad economic times had me from job to job, one of them working for $20 per hour. The only way to survive is to just keep moving forward. The future is bright for this country now and, even though I feel like I'm starting over at 61, I can actually see a future. When you are drowning in your own sorrow and think you are the only one, you realize you are not! Things could be much worse! Putting your faith in God that it's his plan for you, regardless of how hard things are, is how I've survived this. Thanks for the great video because everything you say is so true! I have no clue where the last 40 years have gone!!

I like my strawberries acid, when they get too sweet I feel like they taste rotten. Same with bananas, I like them almost green. Modern food is a pleasure trap, it's impossible to avoid for most people because it's too good and we're designed to love fat and sweet and eat a ton of it.
Personaly, I've eaten WFPB for the last 10 years with some cheating. My problem is that I like to eat too much, could probably do competitive eating. So even if it's roasted zucchini without oil, I'll just eat non stop. Raw carrots, I'll eat non stop. It's like I'm always looking to eat more and it's hard to put these thoughts away. All of these are healthy and not fattening, but I feel we're living our life just to eat, at least a big part of our life is dedicated to this. And to be clear, I'm not hungry, I just crave eating and I think most people are, but they're eating things that make them fat.

To me, the purpose of life is having a whole life commitment and relationship with Jesus Christ. He will set you free from all of those struggles or anything you deal with, life, addictions, losses, etc. Jesus is the meaning of my life, Jesus wants a relationship with every man and woman on this earth because he loves us so much. There is a heaven and a hell out there, If you trust in Jesus and have faith you will inherit eternal life, or if you dont, eternal damnation. Very good video Jim, God bless!
