  105. To be honest the initial assessments of russian army were at leas partially correct in my opinion. BUT, these same analysts forget that the issues of corruption, nepotism, political appointment, etc. were ALWAYS present in russian army before any war. But the analysts failed to realize that when such a war starts, Russian system and people get gritty and serious, and military is whipped into shape. Under such conditions of military flux, traditional russian strengths determination, of out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, flexibility and pragmatism begin to shine. and so given enough time, russian force becomes the best force of the war. we've seen that time and time again with russian military coming up with solution to every new weapon system or tactics development on the front line. On the political side, they also misread that Russia is being led by a political dinosaur that's been in power almost since most of western leaders were still skipping classes in college. This man has come to power during 1998 financial disaster while Chechen war and terrorist campaign was ongoing. he's seen Kursk disaster, Beslan, 2008 crisis, Georgian war, sanctions, syrian war, Crimea and more sanctions. short of nuclear war, there's hardly anything he HASN'T seen. That's not a man that backs down due to a military setback. But on topic of that, yes i think it was seriously possible back in 2022 to deal a major and demoralizing blow to russia. But even then, even so, it wouldn't have achieved the goal. russians would have just persisted. I think the only way in which russia could have stopped fighting was if the people were convinced that the war is deeply immoral, AND that it also has no value in preserving the russian statehood. But then again, with likes of Azov parading around Ukr, i dont think this was a problem.

  215. Absolutely it was a Munich upset shocker like the Chernobyl Disaster. Congratulations to Vance for crashing the Munich party atmosphere. It was long overdue creating a new paradigm that America is now recognizing that Europe has been committing political and economic suicide. Europe has radically changed by all of the massive migration from Muslims and Africans. The demographic upheaval is massive. Germany, France, and the UK are in political turmoil and instability. The fact is that Europe did not aid Ukraine even 50% with the USA. America contributed 70% to the war effort. Europe swindled America because feckless and impotent Biden was manipulated to pay 70% for Ukraine, while Europe cheapskated out at 30%, or even less given the contributions by Canada, Japan, and SK. The fact remains Europe can’t and won’t aid Ukraine to defeat Putin. It is a pipe dream for Zelensky to think Putin can be beaten. Putin has down the red line in the sand that he will 100% defeat Ukraine if forced to commit everything he has available. Stalin mobilized massive millions to fight Hitler and cranked up the Soviet factories at high speed with enormous amounts of tanks, artillery, rockers, and aircraft to make the Nazi army into the east into hamburger. Putin is an expert student of WW2. He knows how to turn on the screws upon Ukraine just like Stalin did to Germany. The fact remains that Europe won’t pick up the slack if Trump backs away from aid to Ukraine. It was brilliant diplomacy for Trump to agree to Saudi Arabia as a peace deal location. Great choice! Putin was no doubt pleased too. Furthermore, only Trump and Putin can broker a deal. Putin will not allow Europe to call any shots. Putin has zero respect for his European adversaries. Putin wouldn’t mind Orban and Fico contributing to talks. Zelensky isn’t fooling Trump. Trump definitely is going to do MAGA and America first, not Ukraine first. Lastly, Trump sees the bigger picture. He wants normalization with Russia and strike peace deals with Red China. Trump doesn’t want any war with Red China over Taiwan. A Taiwan peace deal is on the Trump bucket list. Trump wants Red China and Putin to stop Iran’s nuke bombs and ICBMs. Hence, Trump will cut deals to eliminate the threats from Iran.

  346. Sir, starting from the end, I have the following comments on your statement. 1. The elections under the supervision of Russian troops in Crimea after 2014 are, in my opinion, a propaganda exercise and not a reliable source of information on ethnic preferences. 2. The statement that the Soviet Union was not Russia reminds me of the argument of modern Germans that the German Reich was founded by a mysterious tribe of Nazis that probably came from the moon... => The Soviet Union was in a political sense the successor to imperial Russia. 3. Stalin's repressions were directed against various ethnic groups, exactly as the tsars did according to the old principle of divide and rule. In this sense, it was about the annihilation of Ukrainian identity. It's a pity that you don't mention the attempt to create a Ukrainian state by the Germans and Austrians during World War I to protect themselves against a possible Polish rebellion. Stalin consciously destroyed Ukrainian separatism even before World War II. 4. The statement that the hatred of Ukrainians towards Poles is the source of Ukrainian identity is, in my opinion, justified. Unfortunately, you missed an important point. Ukrainian identity - written literature, etc., was created in the 19th century when western Ukraine was under the rule of the Habsburgs and the east was controlled by the tsars. The Habsburgs took advantage of ethnic differences to control the area, much like the tsars in Russia. Hence the pogroms that took place inspired by these monarchies and probably a Ukrainian identity based on hatred towards neighbors or ethnic minorities. 5. Summary. The greatest influence on the creation of the current Ukrainian identity had the Habsburgs in the 19th century and later the Germans = mysterious Nazis through the creation of the Ukrainian state during World War I and cooperation with Ukrainians during World War II.
