Us Aussies are over taxed, over levied, over dutied, over rated, over fined, and yet we are citizens of one of the most beautiful and tourism rich countries, and one of the most resource rich countries. We have no shortage of space or land. Yet, land is unaffordable. Yet we receive no royalties on the resources we export to the rest of the world. Our national highways and major roads are in life threatening conditions. Our hospitals are overrun, and health professionals exhausted. Ambulance waiting time are through the roof. Police are quitting and crime is on the rise. Absolutely something is wrong. Something is very wrong economically and socially in Australia. We are losing patriotism (understandably) I see the biggest source of this is the bloated government and bureaucracy, the infinite defense of the big 4 banks and the influence of corporatism in the Australian Parliament. We need a department of government efficiency to wipe out the bloat, stop the corrupt influence of big corporates and banks found guilty in the royal commission. And the promotion of a free, transparent, open market in housing, business, technology, education, tourism, industry, entertainment, and enterprise.

  5. I grew up in Australia during the good times (1980s). My folks bought a large 4 bedroom house for $25,000 (just on the outskirts of Perth), and paid it off within 5 years. Neither of them were university educated, and they worked menial jobs (cleaner, waitressing etc). Those days are long gone, which is why I got the hell out. Thankfully it was easy for me as my wife's from Russia. We moved to a shitty area in Russia (low crime, beautiful nature, fresh air, good food, good fiber internet, but still has dirt roads), bought a large 3 bedroom house for $15,000. It was better than the alternative - going bankrupt in Australia and being kicked out onto the streets. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. On top of everything else, I feel a lot "freer" here (as odd as that may sound). Russia is nothing like what the mainstream media tell us it's like.

  11. Amen bro. I did some sums.. my first job 20 years ago washing dishes in a pub I got paid 20 bucks an hour, double on a Sunday. Beers for 2.70, a house was 250k. Now I earn maybe 60 and hour and a beer is 10 bucks and a house is a million. I'm poorer now than I was as a teenager.

  23. I’m in Ohio and the housing market here over the last 7-8 years is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Homes that were bought for $130K in 2015 are now being sold for $590k. I’m talking about tiny, disgusting, poorly built 950 square foot shit boxes in quiet mediocre neighborhood. Then you’ve got Better, average sized homes in nicer neighborhood that were $300K+ 10 years ago selling for $750k+ now. Wild times.

Australia has more Politicians than any other country and the population is tiny....we have some of the richest mines, minerals, farmlands and tourism in the world and we are heading for bankruptcy....we are 25years behind the US, Europe and Asia when it comes to infrastructure, everything is privatized and sold off to the highest bidder....so much ROT and CORRUPTION. It's disgusting.

  26. I am so tired, Chris. For two years now, I've been working three jobs: one full-time (40 hours a week), plus Door Dash, and I work at Coles at night. Things just don't seem to be getting easier. Last week, I finally have the 5% I need for my house deposit, and now I need to go to the bank to see if they will lend me the money. House prices where I live have gone up $120,000 in a year. My biggest fear is the bank turning around and saying, "Sorry, you don't earn enough." I literally cannot do any more. I have two young kids and a wife. I've been working seven days a week for years. I cannot keep this up forever.

  31. Work your arse off, hit 190k income - 45% tax on every dollar earned above that. The last major highest tax bracket move (150k to 180k) was in 2008, despite approx 54% inflation in Australia since that time. You can't get ahead by earning and saving anymore - if you try by earning, they'll tax it away from you. If you save, they'll inflate it away.

I live in Sydney and where I live there started to be an influx of Indian immigrants after Covid (my rent went down by $40 during covid btw) and once Albanese was elected somehow, they just kept coming and coming and coming... My landlords put my rent up by $100 per week as they saw the demand suddenly arrive and everyone wanted apartments. Now just about every actual Aussie has moved out and on some days I am the only white person and I cant even hear English being spoken at all. As an immigrant many years back myself, this makes me feel very uneasy and very sad.

Our natural resources alone should be elevating our entire society up. Sadly we have governments/politicians that are bought, because when they leave they go straight onto the boards of these companies.
