I was literally just watching your video on Oda Nobunaga's attempt to unify Japan a few hours ago, and was so shocked that Yasuke was one of his samurais! I went to Gifu last week before the new year and only found out about Oda then and his significance. Everyone in Japan learns about him in school in the same way people from the uk learn about Henry VIII. So its a shame that Japanese people in general dont know anything about Yasuke

  9. I always saw him as Japan’s own Genghis Khan what with his ruthless pragmatism and brutality. And his tendency to wipe out anyone who didn't immediately surrender or already opposed him. It's no wonder even his own closest ally who also engaged in extreme violence, decided to betray him and assassinate him.

I found your channel by chance a couple of days ago and immediately subscribed, as I'm a huge fan of the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series and to watch well researched videos about the real life organizations and their ties into politics and other aspects of life is really fascinating to learn about! I also researched some of the cults in this country, especially Aum Shinrikyo since they are a very infamous one and was shocked how many ties they had in the military and also some Government branches. So this is especially interesting to see! Keep up the good work, I'll share this channel with some of my friends in the future who love those kinds of documentaries as well! Have a very nice day!

What an amazing documentary, i am big fan of Yakuza movies for many many years now, you have mentioned mostly i like myself, Street Mobster is my favorite by Fukasaku, Bunta Sugawara is just amazing in that role, violent and wild. I would also mention Sympathy for the underdog from 1971 also directed by Fukasaku, which probably influenced a lot Kitano Sonatine, it is also happening in the Okinawa, fantastic crime movie, also Yakuza Graveyard from Fukasaku, movie from 1979 with Tetsuya Wattari is just brilliant. Also i would mention Takashi Miike specifical Yakuza movies, Bird People in China (1998) and Dead Or Alive 2:Birds (2000), really special experiences, also Agitator (2001) from Miike is pure brilliance, from Kitano my favorite is for sure Sonatine, like it more than Hana-Bi/Fireworks and Boiling Point is also special experience for me (1990).

  38. Interesting history about these two gaming titans. I was born in 1978 and was a big fan of both companies. The late 80's and mid 90's were a great time to be a kid. Today, all games are beautiful, but they lack a certain verve or magic, if I can use that word? Great story, graphics that fit and musical scores that were top notch. Overall, the SNES is my favorite system ever. Super Castlevania is my all time favorite, probably followed by Link to the Past. Thanks for the great presentation and history!

  39. I think, quickly declaring Konami to be a toxic environment just by the over-sensationalized Nikkei articles; both written by the same writer, is premature. Jim Sterling reported on the articles, stating that his sources told him that the article embellishes quite a bit. Speaking to people who have worked with Konami employees, they shared that same sentiment. There are current and former Konami employee reviews published online to read. Game journalist, Nick Monroe, has researched this matter. The Konami Condition is on his blog. My opinion is that you could have dug a little deeper. I'm not saying that Konami isn't toxic, because there's evidence that supports that as well. I just wouldn't have just used the Nikkei articles. Also, you didn't really need the Hideo Kojima segment. You made him a martyr and made the schism between developer and publisher seem one-sided. On a different note, I think it was Nintendo's partnership with Konami for Mario Roulette (1991?) that kicked off Konami's involvement with the gambling business. But that's just another opinion.

  47. Did you know Hiroshi Yamauchi wasn't actually a human being? He was a vessel that enclosed 7 yakuza oni spirits from 7 different regions in Japan. These oni monopolized the gambling in Japan with the hanafuda Nintendo cards and put a spell so that no other company could produce cards, truly evil. Yamauchi, often referred to as "大魔王 ティラノ天堂" (Great Evil King Tyranotendo), tyranized the video games market with his monopolic practises, it is said that the Master System or the PC Engine didn't actually ever exist, and that they were invented time after so hide the fact that the Famicom was actually the one and only console existing in Japan.

  50. It's a shame the sword was turned in, but I do feel like (or hope) it's more likely that someone in the chain took it rather than it simply being destroyed. Ever since your first video I've been thinking it's nice to see a new channel dedicated to Japanese history. I still wish there was a channel that focused on the Heian Period, since there seems to be relatively little content about it while it's my favorite period.
