  36. I think context is really important with this clip. Remember that this was a forced move mission. The platoons left in the very early morning hours and reached the cell tower at dawn there was no question that they would be attacked in some way as there was no chance the taliban would let the opportunity go to waste. The person wearing the helmet cam is a section leader he has two squads under him that he is trying to coordinate and get the status of. His men had just been caught in a far ambush that should have done devastating damage to them as they were out in the open. It was unknown if there was a force moving up and over the mountain on the other side of the peak. The cam itself is a contour roam which does not give you the depth perception and scale of what is going on. Things are regularly much closer or further away than they appear. The afghans with this platoon are regularly cycled out to other areas so even if you trained up a set of them to work well new recruits or different units would come into the area. Many ANA were killed by back blast and this section sergeant was in the midst of trying to get status on his troopers all the while having a random person shoot an RPG completely at random with no understanding of where friendly units were. There was an interpreter up there with them but he is not trained for combat. He is scared and was also just ambushed and despite keeping his cool was in not position to translate if the ANA had said anything about launching a rocket. Any time a soldier launches a munition they are responsible for it. Incoming RPG's and outgoing rifle fire are all around them even if he spoke the clearest of english it is just as likely that no one would have heard him due to auditory exclusion and hearing damage.
