You guys are one of the only news channels I watch regularly because you are far more objective and I cannot bring myself to even trust western media or even Arab media like Aljazeera when it comes to news like this. Also, I really enjoy your perspective as a contemporary to the past , especially the 60s all the way to the present day. it really helps young millennials, like me (I am Nigerian btw), gain so much insight into that period and contrast it with our current times.

  20. Some of his key reforms that he either had proposed or was already working upon (all in public domain)- 1. Joint Theatre Commands (possibly in 2 phases where in the first phase, 5 Geography based commands like North, East, West, Maritime & Unified Air Defence/Central Command were to be made & in the second phase add 5 more Commands in the fields of Space, Cyber, Logistics, Joint Training, Information & Intelligence Warfare respectively). 2. Integrated Battle Groups- This was mainly for the Army where they would carry out a complete reorganization of all Corps. (Strike, Holding & Defensive) into small group (just over a Brigade sized groups having 5000 soliders having elements of Tanks, Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Artillery, Localised Air Defence like Igla MANPADS, Schilka & in future QR SAM etc. (all outside control of Unified Air Defence Command). Each Groups responsible for a particular Area of Operations or Region. 3. Proposal of Rocket Force- He had once proposed the idea of India's very own Rocket Force somewhat on the lines of Chinese Rocket Force responsible for all Conventional Land & Shore based Missiles (Ballistic, Cruise), Long Range Rocket Systems (Range of 100 km+). It will help bridge the gap of Asymmetrical Warfare between India & China & give us some major strategic deterrence while maintain a big superiority over Pakistan. 4. Digital Combat Dresses which would lay not only more emphasis on use of technology but also comfort of soldiers serving in extreme weather conditions. 5. Raising the age of Non-Combatant staff to stop the increase of Pension Bill so that more funds can be made available for Modernisation & having Uniform Age of retirement across Force lines depending upon Ranks. 6. Formation of Capability development Plan for the next 10 years by coordinating on the requirement of all forces & based on that Projection how can Defence budget be increased over the next decade to meet the requirements. A Major part of this plan was to lay a major thrust on indigenisation. I hope after him the next CDS along with all Chiefs focus on indigenisation. Our first objective should be to meet majority of our defence needs from indigenous equipments, while it's understandable that nit all would be met but let's try to get as much as possible. I feel by 2030, meeting atleast 70-75% of our defence needs with indigenous equipments would be a realistic & achievable target. 7. Uniform Aviation Brigade Base- Another reform he had proposed was of a Uniform Aviation Brigade base of Triservices which would be responsible for operations related to Drones (Swarm & Armed), Helicopters (Transport & Attack) with a dedicated Uniform Tri Service Force responsible for operating this. Although there would be a few exceptions like Helicopters (Transport & Attack) & Loitering Munition & Swarm Drones with short ranges alloted to Integrated Battle Groups won't come under this base's control, similarly Heavy Helicopters like Chinook also would remain under the control of IAF, platform based Helicopters like Ship & Aircraft Carrier borne Helicopters & Drones also won't come under the control of this Uniform Base. All these would be functioning as Autonomous units. A few medium & light Helicopters required by each force for day to day transportation etc. also would remain with respective forces. The Uniform Aviation Brigade bases would be handling the rest which still would be quite a sizable fleet. Aviation Brigade bases would be reporting to Theatre Command HQ & coordinating with Corps. HQ responsible for that particular area & Air &/or Naval bases falling in their area of operations. 8. Lastly, he had proposed the need to have a Single Land Border Patrolling Force instead of 3 separate forces (BSF, ITBP & SSB) looking after separate borders. It would be similar to Coast Guard which is the only Force in the country looking after Sea Borders of the country, hence there is a need to have a Single Land Border Patrolling Force. This can be achieved by merging the assets including manpower of all 3 forces to form a Single Land Border Patrolling Force. It will make decision implementation a lot more easier. Most countries like Russia, China & even Pakistan have only 1 Border Force. I would like to add this suggestion personally that if ever such a Force is formed- 1. It's rank structure should be on the lines of Armed Forces that is it should be lead by a person from within the organization & not some IPS Officer on deputation. Infact in my opinion IPS Officers should remain limited to State/UT Police units & not even Central Forces. 2. New Border Force's operational control can be under the Ministry of Defence as there needs to be a coordination between the Army which comes under MoD & Land Border Forces to bring efficiency & synergy while tackling threats at the Border which are external in nature. Administrative Control in matters like Pensions, Salary etc. can stay with Ministry of Home Affairs like is the case with Assam Rifles. It's quite unfortunate that he passed away before seeing the success of what he had proposed or initiated. Thank you CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat sir for showing the path. Now it's upto the next CDS to look after launching all those reforms which Gen. Bipin Rawat had either proposed or started & was work in progress. This would be the biggest tribute our country & military would be able to give to him. Hope we'll be seeing all of them get launched over the next 5 years which would transform our force into a Military capable of effectively & efficiently facing 21st Generation threats.

  24. It's a shame in Bangladesh we don't learn about these great Indian heroes of 1971. A recent effort was made by colonel Sajid Zahir of Bangladesh to award the families of the martyred Indian soldiers in Bangladesh. Although, recent attitude of some Indian politicians have sullied diplomatic ties I would like to thank all soldiers, volunteers who worked in the refugee camps in West Bengal and those who supported them financially. It was an act of kindness and chivalry that will never be forgotten. I hope the current hostile attitudes of people from both sides of the border ends soon.
