  1. I am an engineer who was specializing in "novel" refrigeration machinery until I went to the dark side and became management. I also bought one of these machines from this company to play with and understand the process. The control board will happily spit out a pretty nice log file automatically if you plug in a flash drive to the USB port. I was able to understand what it was doing and its control points by using that log.

As a commerical locksmith you would not BELIEVE how many calls I get that say "our door is slamming/our door is not latching" that require about 2 turns of a screwdriver to fix and cost the customer $300+. Everyone who owns, rents, or manages a commercial building should know how to adjust a door closer. Edit to add: another key reason to have a hydraulic or spring closer is that aluminum storefront doors are absolutely heavy enough to shatter the glass if for example thrown shut by a gust of wind or allowed to swing downhill in an unlevel doorframe. Even a minor slam, if it happens to that door dozens of times a day over the course of years, can also cause the early death of expensive locking hardware.

  13. While I agree with everything you said there is something even more important especially in the USA. Insulation. Insulation earns back the investment easily (especially with the current rising prices) and will also reduce the need for heating meaning your heating pumps won't be on as often and that IF there is a failure your house will hold on to the heat inside of it.

  14. Awwww, you didn't mention turn signals! The "click, clack" of turn signals used to be caused by the relay that controls the bulbs toggling on and off. Now cars use solid state relays, so the clicking sound is produced artificially by a speaker under the dash.

  18. Ive been thinking about this a lot recently. There is definately a "pre algorithm" and "post algorithm" internet, and the newer users dont understand how it vastly differs. People used to control and find what they wanted to see, the communities they joined.. now they just have things presented to them.

Regarding the 'Magic Physics' for your ice buildup problem: The cold spot does not attract the Water/Ice, the gaseus water moves to every place with roughly the same chance, but the cold area is the place where the water looses it's energy and is significantly less likely to leave again, so it accumulates there.

Having access to internet for over 2 decades and watching it transform before my eyes, I can say your points and concerns are very valid. The modern day average user’s psychological dependence on apps and algorithms is genuinely worrying. I find it quite unbelievable at times that we humans are pretty much devolving our abilities and desires to learn. Thank you for making this video.

  24. It's interesting because I've used the "not interested" and "don't recommend channel" options to effectively filter out most of the brain breaking slop. It could be a lot better (let me control that data beyond just clearing it), but I would still put YT above some other socials for this reason and because it allows space for actually useful content.

  27. Despite the total absurdity of the device, I have to take my hat off to the engineers assigned to build it and write that manual. They did (I think) the best possible job within the technical limitations, were aware of the many failings, and mentioned them in detail in the manual. You don’t always get to choose what you work on, but it’s always great to see a difficult and unrewarding job done well regardless.

  29. As an Asian I would like to add: 1) 5kW-6kW induction wok-compatible stoves are fairly common in East Asian countries at least for restaurant use. "Wok hei" is really not an issue at all with the power they offer. 2) For a typical stir-fry dish, a 20-minute default timer sounds quite plentiful, especially on a home cook scale.

  40. My Uncle, Bernard Kopelman, invented the Magicube. He was the head of research at Sylvania Lighting. I remember him explaining how it worked back around 1970 when I was a teenager. He was a material scientist and before working at Sylvania he was involved in the Manhattan Project developing materials for nuclear reactors. Sylvania (GTE) rewarded him for his work on the Magicube by making him the Vice President of their materials division. He regretted the promotion the rest of his career since he was an inventor at heart and did not enjoy being a manager. My uncle got me a summer job at the Sylvania factory in 1976 when they were developing a machine to make a million electronic flash tubes.

  48. Here’s your friendly German with two mildly interesting things about that Adonal bottle. First, most of the label is translated, except for the large “Schärfesteigernder Filmentwickler”, which simply means “sharpness-increasing film developer”. In case you were wondering. Second, at the top the English translation says “Produced according to the latest Rodinal formula”, while the German version below it says “Nach der zuletzt bekannten Rodinal Rezeptur hergestellt”, which more literally translates to “Produced according to the last known[!] Rodinal formulation”. I’m sure there’s a fascinating story behind this. Oh, and in case you’re really interested in Rodinal now, check out the German Wikipedia’s article about it, it’s way more detailed than the English one (yet). But in German, of course. Sorry.
