That was a really good rendition of the exploits of Penda. I've read books about the lineage of Oswald of Northumbria and of the Kingdom of Mercia, but I very easily loose track of the plot of what happened. Who attacked who, who came after who, etc. But this video just outlined the main points and made everything much clearer to make sense of and remember. I'm (originally) a Mercian myself. Born into the OLD county of Warwickshire (before it had the West Midlands carved out of it) and to the old currency of Charlemagne, via Offa of Mercia L.S.D. (but only just. I was born in '70). Penda has long been my historical hero, along with Offa. Although Penda takes it for me, as he WASN'T a Christian (much preferred).
In addition I believe I know where the battle of Winwaed was fought. Reasoning it all out, there is only really ONE candidate for the location which makes sense, and fits the evidence completely. But I'm planning a video on that, so I can't divulge, just yet. Lastly I believe I have worked out what Penda's name refers to, as it doesn't seem to belong to either Old English or Old Welsh. The clue, I believe, is in his son's name. But again, I can't divulge just yet.
Excellent video! Subscribed.
