  42. The only class I've ever gotten a D in was trigonometry. I remember handing in papers with just my name on top. I might as well have been in a class where they were speaking a foreign language. I remember missing / not understanding something one day, and I was hopelessly lost after that. My teacher only passed me out of pity because I was a senior about to graduate! I was there every day and I was trying SO HARD. He knew I was a good student in every other area. Thank you, Mr. Meyer! The very existence of math is evidence that material realities are not the only realities out there. Real things can exist, that cannot be apprehended by our 5 senses.

If you did, it would mean I was accountable to you!" Better to say things like inanimate objects/materials are conscious. But those who acknowledge the biblical Creator are the irrational ones?

I wonder if there's any difference in the benefits of listening to music vs. making music? Or are the benefits about the same? What about those people who don't listen to music? (Not because of any physical problem, but just because it doesn't interest them.) Yes, they exist. I know at least one person who seems to be this way. They don't actively dislike music. But they don't listen to it or seek it out. They don't turn on a radio for songs. If something is on TV, maybe they'll listen for a few minutes. But that's about it. If there's anyone here like this, I would love to hear your perspective. I wish music therapy had existed when I was college age. (Or if it did, that I'd been aware of it.) I wish I had gotten into that field.

  89. The Fine Arts Building in Chicago still has elevator operators! (At least, up until 1-2 years ago. I used to take voice classes there, but I haven't been there in a while.) It's a gorgeous old building and the whole thing is very quaint. But holy cow, I don't know how they can stand it. The elevators are tiny, get super crowded at times, and there's no AC in the building. It's like an oven. I'm guessing they only do a few hours at a time. No way someone could stand in there 8 hours a day. Thankfully, I think it's only 10 floors.

I wonder if one of the reasons it failed is because they didn't * really * have to make it work in order to survive? After all, people are on the ISS for months at a time. I'm sure they have problems/don't get along at times. But they have no choice but to work together because... where else are they going to go? These people knew - even just in the back of their minds - that they didn't HAVE to stay there.

  111. I've always wondered if it was a scam. No one ever says what's being made from all this plastic! Oh, sure, once in a while I see, "This _ was made from recycled bottles." But that's rare. And who knows if it's true anyway. As to animals and everything else in the natural world, that's why God gave them to us. But it has to be done responsibly. You don't want to use an animal to the point where they are extinct. But it's not wrong to use them for food, clothing, etc. I'm an animal lover, so I don't necessarily love that. But that's life in a fallen world. Again, that's why God gave them to us. So I don't understand what that was all about. Once we get away from the biblical worldview, things get to be a mess. We either use natural things or synthetic things. If it's bad to use the natural ones and it's bad to use the synthetic ones... I'm not sure what other option there is.

  141. Most of this "environmental" stuff makes no logical sense. I'm in my 50s and grew up drinking city tap water. As far as I can tell, I am still alive. Then, all of a sudden, we were told tap water is bad for you. Along came bottled water. But what about all these BILLIONS of plastic bottles being discarded all over the world? No one ever mentioned that part. Now I'm hearing the plastic leeches into your body? THAT can't be good. I'd rather just drink tap water! A few years ago, Chicago was (supposedly) getting rid of plastic grocery bags. You know, "for the environment." There was a whole campaign encouraging people to bring their own bags. Fine. Then, not long after, I started seeing the plastic bags again. Only now, we were being charged 7 cents for them! And they're crappy, thin bags, too. It's a GAME. Nothing more.
