@245-TRIOXIN "Liet Kynes is supposed to be a 'male' character." THANK YOU! I am late to this party. I only just saw Part 1 this week. I did like most of it. But when I saw that chick I nearly screamed out loud in shock. Plus they totally changed the ending for the character which was one of my favorite (though horrifying) parts of the book! Then I finally watched Drinker's review of Part 1 and he said NOTHING about any of this!

@245-TRIOXIN "You said you nearly screamed out in shock when you saw Liet Kynes in the first film." I truly did! I had been enjoying it to that point. I was fully immersed in the world and the story. They said the name and for a split second, I tell you, I could not process it. I'm glad I saw it at home. If I had been in the theater, I think I would have lost my mind. "It completely jolts you out of the story because you know its not supposed to be there." Exactly! My brain glitched and I was taken completely out of the story. And, again, I was stunned when I finally watched Drinker's review of Part 1 that NOTHING was said about it. Nothing! "I think people are on a high just because its been so long since we've seen a sci-fi movie that actually features a male protagonist. Lets be honest, that's been in very short supply over the past few years." Which I love and miss! "Its been all about the girl-boss." Which I loathe. Plot twist: I am a woman.

@245-TRIOXIN I'm a huge X-Files fan. Scully was fantastic. She wasn't obnoxious like female characters are today. At that time, things were also a bit more realistic. There were times male characters did overpower her. Gillian Anderson is a small woman. It would've looked ridiculous to see her beating up some guy twice her size. (Thought they did that in one ep, in a fake sort of way. It was allowed to look as ridiculous as it is!) It's all so stupid. Men are men. Women are women. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. I remember years ago hearing some preacher talking about marriage. Obviously a different context to what we're talking about here. But he said, "If both of you were the same, one of you would be unnecessary." It's so true. Men and women complement each other. Trying to make one into the other is just stupid.

I honestly wonder if young women who have grown up watching this nonsense put themselves in dangerous situations thinking, "I can handle it." You'd assume they'd know fiction from reality. But do they? Kids are not known for rational thinking. They are easily influenced. I would think a steady diet of "girlbosses kicking butt" would have an impact, even if they don't fully realize it.

I saw the first one via Amazon just yesterday. Beautiful, except they did the woke thing by turning Liet Kynes into some black chick. And ruining the character arc by entirely changing it. I was livid. I was going to watch Part 2 but I will wait for streaming, if at all.

"and let's not forget that hit on southern United States being backwards religious nutters." Eek, really? I haven't seen it. I guess I'll wait for streaming, if even that. Just saw Part 1 the other night and generally liked it, but I could not BELIEVE they changed Liet Kynes to some black chick, plus totally changed his ending. (One of my favorite parts of the book.) And Drinker said NOTHING about that in his review! I was stunned. I do hope he hasn't somehow sold out. Sigh.

@FreeEnricoPalazzo I was hoping not. Sigh.

Uh, oh. What did they do? I'm becoming more & more thankful I didn't shell out the ridiculous cost of movies these days.
