The last part about being selective about customers turned me off. It seems "clique-ish" or something? I don't know. I wish it has been more specific. If it's just customers being loud or rude to others, that type of thing, it's understandable. But I wouldn't have the guts to go there, wondering if he'd throw me out for some unknown reason. That said, it looks like a lovely place. How sad about his wife. I lost my mother in Feb. last year. The time since then has been a blur for me too. It's wonderful that he's still staying active as well as keeping the shop going! It's so important to have that connection with people and have a purpose to get up each day. I have heard isolation / loneliness is a big problem in Japan? He is filling a need. And it's such a lovely place. Very well thought out. I hope his children/grandchildren continue to help him and that he's able to keep the shop going as long as possible. He seems the type of person who would just wither away sitting at home, alone. I hope that does not happen to him.
