I don't know why anyone thinks work colleagues are friends! If you get fired, they forget about you the next day. No one cares. You go to work, you do your work, you go home. That's it. That's all these relationships are or should be.

@gathercreatelivewithleslie8340 It's a nice sentiment. And maybe it does occur in some work situations. I suppose it's different depending in the profession, as well. I'm just saying it's not the standard. I've only ever worked office jobs. When I was younger and more naive, when I would leave a job for whatever reason, I would make it a point to keep in touch with coworkers. After a while, I realized that I was always the one initiating the continued contact. Once I stopped making the effort, people would never keep contact with me. And that was over and over in different work situations. In my last job I had a friend that was also an out of work friend. We worked on different floors, but we had lunch together almost every day. Once I left, I did my part in keeping in contact. I even stopped by for lunch a few times. But if I didn't contact her, she didn't contact me. Once I got tired and discouraged of ALWAYS being the one reaching out... that was it. I haven't heard from her in literally YEARS. People don't care. They really don't. I know that's hard to accept. But it's just reality. If you're in a situation that's different, then you are fortunate. Be thankful for it. Just know that it's not the usual.
