He didn't wrestle with anything to change his mind, this was the plan all along, he of course needed the public to vote for his party, he also needed to let the trial finish so that he could give a blanket pardon for not just the two charges but for 11 years while he worked for Brisma, and he willingly pardoned his son so that nobody would investigate him afterwards. Most of the time people have to be paid to be this stewped, and even though this press secretary is a better public speaker than the last one, she is definitely being paid to be this stewped
