  1. I find more older women than younger get surprised when I reply "of course" to getting or holding a door open because it would be more rude to ignore them. Obviously a fully capable woman is capable of opening a door, yet there's no harm in holding a door showing awareness, not weakness. It can bother me when another man doesn't take the moment to hold on for me, but it does bother me when a son or significant other doesn't do that simple gesture for a lady. It's called honoring, not demeaning. My mom and grandma raised me on manners and respect and if I didn't behave properly, then I'd dishonor their intent, having not grown up with a father figure to show me how to behave as a man
