It's not irrational, Joe, because nowhere in the Bible does the Lord tell you to do something foolish, self-defense and the defense of your family is highly talked about in the bible, because there is no greater love than for a man to lay down his life, and that's not voluntarily, that's because he's fighting for their protection. Turning the other cheek is to let everyone know that you are not weak, that you are not afraid, and that you are obedient to what you were called to do.

  7.  @jdmonroe08  that's because the Christ is not dead, but He is also the Word that spoke Creation. He came to save us from death, which, according to the Bible, means being separated from the Lord so while some people were in Paradise, ala Abraham's Bosom, the rest were in Torment and when His physical body was slain, He went down to collect Adam and all of Adam's children (the people Saved in paradise). Now, anyone else who is saved, they get to go straight to the current Heaven. That's one of the reasons why He came down, defying all expectations from the other "angels" thinking He wasn't who He said He IS
