If you grew up privileged like some of these people in that panel, you do not have the ability to be empathetic towards somebody who has dealt with impression, especially when you weren't an adult during the 1950s. Just like men will never ever be able to empathize with a pregnant woman, we can show sympathy but we will never understand. Empathy requires a shared experience and these people are privileged enough to be on television, and I guarantee you all of them have no understanding of what it's like to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Maybe Whoopi is a child but she was able to get into Hollywood at a young age, she likely had some privilege to get her there. I can almost guarantee you she never grew up in a trailer, she never grew up in a poor neighborhood, she never lived in a duplex, she likely never had to put hot dogs between one slice of bread to act like a bun so now she has no ability to empathize with poor people just like these privileged folk on TV have no ability to empathize with people that are oppressed overseas because being born in a free country like this gives you an automatic privilege compared to places like Central Africa, Far East Asia, and of course parts of the Middle East. We are privileged here and we have absolutely no idea what it's like to live in places like the ones I just listed. They just throw that word empathy around like it's a buzz word even though they have no idea what it means. They are confusing empathy with sympathy just because they are virtue signaling
