He was always beloved, and as a registered Democrat for decades, when he decided to run for president, he wanted to run as a Democrat and they laughed him off stage, so when he switched sides, that's when he became an enemy.   3. He was beloved for the longest time, the only reason he is now hated is because when he did run for president, he started out as a Democrat (was registered as such for decades), they basically laughed him off stage so he switched sides and that's when he became an enemy.
