American politicians love to say this is the land of opportunity, where anybody willing to work hard can have a decent life. These migrants just believed them.

It is crazy, but there is a logic to it - if these people are completely destitute they're either going to end up using social services or are going to get booked by police, both of which will add up to much higher than $3000 real quick.

How is that related? The US military only stormed Normandy to protect our European allies from the Nazis (and only after some very heavy prompting). And most of the guys charging up Normandy had seen (and probably participated in) their fair share of crime - the great depression and prohibition were not famously lawful times in American history.

It's a protest and the cops aren't talking - who df do you expect to provide a contrasting opinion?

Wild how social media platforms will ban you for posting a female nipple, but are totally chill with folks self-recording felonies for clout

I know plenty of kids I grew up with who played GTA for hours upon hours listening to rap music, and as far as I know, none of them have ever boosted a kia

Questions create a narrative as well, by implying what avenues of exploration are worthy and important, and who is responsible for providing answers. If I say to my partner, "What did you do with my keys?" I am implying a narrative that my keys are not where they should be, that my partner did something with them, and that they have a responsibility to provide me an answer. Depending on the circumstance, these may be valid implications or totally off base. There's no way to understand a historical circumstance without a sense of narrative structure. Investigation is a process of comparing and vetting competing narratives for their accuracy and explanatory power. And the more time limited a situation becomes (ie a situation where people are dying quickly) the more important it becomes to quickly identify and dismiss lines of inquiry that support narratives that do not map to reality.

Why does this comment have more than twice as many replies as any others? Really interesting food for thought. It's as if the articulateness of the protesters is more incendiary than the actual violence. Fascinating

I grew up in small rural life swinging axes, but i have no clue why the average person would find that skill useful or even have to opportunity to develop it, unless they signed up for some goofy "axe-fit" class at the local crossfit box for 399/month

Kevin's heart seems pike its in the right place, but I'm sure confused what hes actually accomplishing - what is posting on online threads and blowing $1000+ on drone gear just to "ominously" hover nearby achieving? If he was more invested in helping people than his suburban batman fantasy it seems like he'd be going around, i don't know, like helping people update their cars or something

As a guy in one of the previous videos mentioned, it's hard to get clean if you're dead. Edit: also as this video demonstrates, the forces involved in authoring this fucked up situation have nothing to do with harm reduction services.
