The idea that anxiety and depression are caused by irrationality has unfortunately never really been scientifically supported - it became vouge during the heyday of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and people assumed that because the therapy worked its underlying assumptions must be true, but now as the supposed amazing benefits of CBT decline year by year, it seema clear that those early miracle studies were victim of the same blind hype and selective optimism that pushed antidepressants and as a miracle cure. In studies comparing depeessed people to neurotypicals, sometimes one group will demonstrate a more accurate evaluation of reality than the other, but there isnt any conclusive evidence that on the whole depressed people are more or less rational
