At the system’s greatest extent, in 1914, there were about 20,000 miles (32,000 km) of track, run by 120 competing companies.
1
Imagine coordinating 120 companies on an under invested system.
1
Also difficult to compete in a single track. It's not trucking
1
Strategically. Can't help wondering if leaving a (mostly) United Europe isn't a bit of a mistake.
1
Hitler was an insecure man who had Freudian worries.
1
Hitler was a they've. There was no economic policy.
1
@billbolton i think most folk like to be useful to their society. The ussr found it fairly easy to get people to work, invent etc, that want the problem. The problem was that when something didn't work they just threw more resources at it. I don't fancy it but the ussr was better than tsarism, it was probably the second best system we have come up with. Baby and bath water.

Let's shoot them and talk about it some other time.

See also èlan and red trousers.

Thats capitalism! Some one workred out how to do what you do with less iinputs but the same returns. Disruptive 😂
1
Man educated and medically cared for by the state demands to go back to the 1840s. Where his life expectancy and education would have been shit. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the rest.
1
The army officers had all broken their oath to the Weimar Republic and could not be trusty.
1
People turned to Communism or Fascism because Capitalism had failed them. Austerity was the order of most countries after the 1929 Crash and it collapsed the world's economy.
1
Looks like a right basta*d
1
@yugster78 pretty Bismarkian.
1
You are excellent at studying the details of ww2 but your grip on economics is laughable.
1
Cultural Marxist. Nazi term that although they were more precise and called it Cultural Bolshevism. Tik has done some great work but his definition of socialism makes no sense. And his economic theories are disproved daily. He once said the nazis would not have killed the Jews if they hadn't interfered with the market economy. That is mental.
1
It was strategy and logistics what won it not tactics
1
Free market is not a democracy. Perhaps you would like some government regulation Mr TIK.

@keithplymale2374 youtube is an entirely capitalist enterprise not socialist and why no genocide in uk when we all voted to hand most weapons except shot guns and hunting rifles which no one bans. Regulates but not bans.

The British Labour Party is a patriotic (nationalist) and socialist party. Where the Czechs really Nazis? Weird again. Google says the opposite "Despite the similar name, the Czech "National Socialists" were not affiliated with Nazism or the German Nazi Party. While the early ČSNS made use of antisemitic rhetoric, the party completely abandoned such positions after the First World War, when it renamed to Czechoslovak (National) Socialist Party. Instead, party representatives in majority supported Zionism and highly supported German Jewish refugees in the 1930s

Why would the USSR resort to truth ? It really wasn't their thing
1
So why would Churchill want to end a war of attrition in N Africa when it was simultaneously draining axis forces and giving our (British) cavalry officers a crash course in tank warfare? Also given the resources of Ukraine and the Caucasus it would be reasonable to assume that that would Hitler's prime objective? Churchill was a hard bastard and would have had no problem losing men as that is the only way you win a war.
1
Stalinist did not think the nazis were socialists and had fought them in Spain and the streets of Germany. What they did was strategic and perhaps a bit daft but they loathed the nazis.. how could they like an ideology that reduced them to slaves ffs?
1
British government hadn't organised the railways because they were in private hands. Same with coal and steel which also had to be taken under government control because of their under investment and small scale enterprises. When they were nationalised it was less traumatic than you'd think. Also agriculture. If you didn't produce, they would take your farm off you!
1
There was a laissez-faire regime in the UK pre war so the government didn't organise the ports as it didn't think it was it's business. The ports were nationalised in 1967 which is after 1931. It was the endless export of investment capital that meant Britain was not the most modern of countries, to be polite. And I suppose the liberal economic theories of those pre Keynesian days.

@Bogda Nov all the other leaders didn't have the level of power that he did. Go read up on it. They couldn't have another Stalin just in the interests of not being murdered.

For a modern British United Front see the Anti-Nazi League and the Rock against Racism campaign of the 1970s. It sucessfully united all sorts and made the National Front and racism unfashionable.
