Sounds like a classic united front that Leninists usually call for in the face of facism and if they can't cope themselves. It benefits the workers in that they can usually organise under normal capitalism and it benefits the Party in that they don't get killed.

Stalinist did not think the nazis were socialists and had fought them in Spain and the streets of Germany. What they did was strategic and perhaps a bit daft but they loathed the nazis.. how could they like an ideology that reduced them to slaves ffs?

For a modern British United Front see the Anti-Nazi League and the Rock against Racism campaign of the 1970s. It sucessfully united all sorts and made the National Front and racism unfashionable.
