What drivel. Colonialism was not primarily about the slave trade. That was an unfortunate byproduct of colonialism. The slave trade the Dutch were involved in was well established in Africa and the Pacific areas long before the Dutch or other Europeans. It was run by Africans and Arabs, and by some accounts is still happening today.

What many people don't understand is that colonialism is actually the natural state of things. The years since WWII saw an unprecedented situation. It is now unraveling, and the world is probably heading towards separate trading blocs, in which some countries will be ascendant, and others subjugated. The whole idea of a rules-based world order is something the US created to combat the Soviet Union and its expansionist ambitions. Then, when the Soviet Union fell, the US continued to maintain that order to the whole world, not just its allies. By the way, part of that order required the Europeans to dismantle their colonial empires. The cost of maintaining the order is no longer something the US is willing to bear. The last internationalist US President was George H. W. Bush. He left office in 1993. All of the subsequent presidents have been progressively more populist. China and Russia are in no way capable of filling the gap left by the US, and never will be. Both will likely experience massive breakdown, and perhaps dissolution (Xi is China has already expressed this fear) before the decade is out.
