I went there in 1974 with a German girl I met on an island in Greece (my teenage years were lots of fun). When we were in Ljubljana we were in a shop. I picked up a package of cookies and declared "communist cookies", which at the time I thought very funny (please forgive me). My girlfriend did not. It was an interesting experience for me and caused me issues in getting security clearances in the years after. I was born in Washington, DC and my father worked for an Army weapons lab. So, finding myself in a communist country at that time was quite an experience. It was also interesting since I had just left a right-wing dictatorship in Greece. By the time we got to Trieste the junta in Greece had fallen.

I miss the Cold War. I got to do incredible research projects with unlimited funds. i told this to a colleague of mine. He said he missed it because he got to kill people. He was a F4 pilot off the USS Enterprise. To each his own.

@syfiliskerino1998 I was there in the early 1970s, not the 1980s.I don't know if that was just a typo. Let me know. I certainly saw the nationalistic fervor in Athens. I have lots of stories on that. I think you are reacting to the term "right-wing". I have a similar reaction, but that is the terminology we are stuck with. So, I get your points.

Although many of their views are out there, many of those you mention are very familiar today.

I live in a suburb of Chicago. We have a park named Nike Park. It was, indeed, one of the missile battery sites. In fact, under one of the office buildings adjacent to the park there is still an underground bunker that one can tour. As for nuclear missiles to defend against nuclear bombers, there were also the Genie and Falcon missiles carried by F-102 and F-106 interceptors used for the same purpose.

@noobplays-saslow2920 Great! Lots of research to be done. I also don't think China will overtake the US. Don't forget that China has lots of land border with states that are potentially arrayed against it.

@周军-i4w So, how is this any different from the history of Asia, or any other part of the world? If you are trying to cast aspersions, you might want to look closer to home.

What is also interesting is that a lot of Russian artillery is hitting unoccupied farmland. They are just shelling empty spaces. They are in effect just wasting ammo. I guess they have a quota and just expend it wherever. Now, with HIMARS targeting their ammo dumps, they are running out. They are screwed.

@tonyhawk94 That is true about unguided artillery, and especially MLRS as the Russians use it. Still, with the issues they are having with their ammo supply, this will adversely impact them.

Are you kidding?! There was a major investigation about Russian money and Trump. It has been resoundly been debunked. Clinton was clearly behind that. Perhaps she was on the Russian's payroll. As for Italy and the UK, these situations have NOTHING to do with Russia. If you don't understand that, then you have no understanding at all. What a load of crap.
