  1. Stalingrad was a turning point in WWII precisely for the same reason that Bakhmut is. It was an attritional battle, destroying one of Germany's largest combat formations. It was not necessary for the Germans to take the city. It's only use was in disrupting traffic along the Volga, which was indeed a critical line of communication. They could have done it anywhere else. But, in this case the role of the Russians is the same a the German's in that WWII battle, while the Ukrainians are in the WWII Soviet role. Even the building counterattack is right out of the WWII situation. So, I think the Dude is correct, the attacks in Bakhmut and Addiivka will be Russia's last.
