You didn't mention one of the most important things differentiating modern wars from past wars. That is population. Even just considering the first half of the 20th century, the main perpetrators of WWII had growing populations that were outstripping the capacity of their lands. This was true of Nazi Germany. Remember Hitler's concept of "lebensraum"? The Japanese invaded Manchuria and then sent over lots of people to farm the land. The Soviets developed their style of warfare in both WWI and WWII because they had a relatively massive and growing population. None of this is true any longer. The world population is about to peak (or maybe has) and is then going to decline. In fact, in Northeast Asia and Europe (including Russia and Ukraine) we are seeing large population declines. In Asia, the only major country with reasonable demographics today is India. China is an interesting case. They claim a population of about 1.4B, but several independent analyses using indirect data claim it may only be 800M. Some common people within China are now starting to believe that as well based on their personal observations. There is speculation that China will be down to 500M by the end of this century, or that the Han ethnicity will effectively disappear by then. The Russian ethnicity, prior to this war, was already on a trajectory to be a minority (albeit still the largest) in the Russian Federation. The war will only accelerate that trend.
