  2. Don't make a big deal out of how much time and familiarity soldiers have with particular equipment. There is little or no history to show that a force using old, but familiar equipment will do better than a force newly trained with newer and better equipment. The people making such assertions are not basing this on any evidence. Just a few instances from history point that out. One is WWII. The US had not been fighting since WWI and came up against a Japanese force with less capable equipment but vastly more experience. Another is Operation Desert Storm. Again, the US had not been fighting for a while, but had drastically modernized their forces and equipment. The Iraqis, on the other hand had a decade of combat using their Soviet equipment. Who won that one? Equipment is a very important aspect, but so is doctrine and training. Who do you think has the edge in Ukraine?
