  1. Russia the "greatest country in the world"? Give me a break. Russia has NEVER been the greatest country in the world. Far from it. They have always been behind the much smaller European powers (remember the Crimean War, etc.) and even Japan (remember the Russo Japanese War of 1904/5). In WWI they were easily defeated by the Germans and their whole regime collapsed resulting in revolution (which had already started in 1905 because of the aforementioned war with Japan). In WWII, without massive aid from the US and UK they would have likely lost the war. Then there was the Cold War which they lost spectacularly. Now, you have the Ukraine war where Russia's army has dropped from the second in the world to the second in Ukraine. Then there is the economy. Russia was among the last world powers to industrialize, and it could not have been done without western help. Russia has always been a laggard!
