Let me start by saying that I support Ukraine. I do this not because of the Ukrainian people, although I have come to respect them because of their conduct in this war, but because of the utter illegality and danger to world order of Russia's actions. On the other hand, Ukraine has a history of corruption since the breakup of the Soviet Union. Most of this I fully understand was "inherited" from the Soviet system. I think they are doing a fairly good job of dealing with that legacy, but it is a reality. Did you forget about Burisma and Hunter Biden? Look at the list of issues that Ukraine must clear up for European membership (list taken from Wikipedia): Reform of the Constitutional Court. Continuation of judicial reform. Anti-corruption, including the appointment of the head of the SAPO. Anti-money laundering. Implementation of the anti-oligarchic law, including recommendations of the Venice Commission. Harmonization of audio-visual media legislation with that of the European Union. Change in legislation on national minorities. Ukraine has a lot to do.
