You may want to check your facts. Unemployment insurance is a program run jointly by the state and federal governments. It is a tax. The benefit is defined, by state.

@johndoh5182 Thanks for pointing that out. I did leave out that the federal government sets the guidelines. I thought that was implicit but see that it was not. The law is a Federal law (Federal Unemployment Tax Act or FUTA) setting minimums. It is overseen by the Department of Labor. The taxes that go into the funding the program are both state and Federal. Another example of Federally mandated but state administered program is Medicaid. Same idea with state and local taxes going to fund the program. There is also the example is the Federal minimum wage. States are free to set a higher minimum wage, but not a lower one.

The stupidity of people continuing to work, often for months and sometimes years, is just astounding. The people bring this on themselves. I am not saying it is right not to pay them, but it is also not right to work while not being paid. What did they think would happen if they continued to work without their pay? Are companies or governments going to deal fairly with such people? Considering how the system is stacked against them, how can they expect justice. To make demands is to go against the CCP. How will that turn out? In the words of President Joe: Come on man!
