Rapprochement with the west? Separating western Europe from the US? You must be kidding. This war has only solidified European alliances with North America. Russia has also shown itself to be an unreliable supplier of essential commodities, and a poor destination for investment. Russia is toast. Russia is also not very important outside of oil, and the world has moved on in that regard. If you hadn't noticed, the price of oil is well down from recent peaks, even though OPEC is trying to support it with production cuts. Frankly, this is the worst time for OPEC to try this with much of the world's economy under stress. Russian oil sales are at a much lower price and are contributing to the lower price overall. They are also not making profit on their sales. I think the real long term gain for China is for Putin to fall and the Russian army to be degraded or destroyed. China has claims on lots of territory in the Russian far east, including Vladivostok.
