If you are hired as a contractor and the contract is completed, then you are not "laid off".

@anhnguyenhoang210 Have you worked as a technology contractor (or any type of contractor)? Company directions change. Projects come and go. Not all are completed, or the direction of the project has changed. Using contractors can be a double-edged sword. You get the people you need for the duration you need them. The other side is that you potentially lose institutional knowledge. It becomes harder to develop staff and pass on that knowledge. Contractors need to be used and directed in very specific ways to be effective. Many times, companies have ignored this a paid the price.
