Standards among the highest? Well, that only counts if you enforce them. China never does. My wife became concerned about arsenic in rice. I did a little research and found that China did indeed have high standards. The concentrations allowed by law were half of what the WHO advocated. The problem was enforcement. At one point, in China, rice from about 60 regions was tested. The amounts found were twice what the WHO set. Most of the arsenic was from anthropogenic sources (i.e., pollution). This is just one example, but of course an important one in China.

These are the people who are going to create a rules based liberal democracy when the CCP falls? As President Joe likes to say: Come on man! These are, as far as I can tell, private companies doing this. Corruption is so endemic in Chinese society that the future, no matter what happens to the CCP, looks dim.
