I have always maintained that, of East Asian peoples, the Chinese are the closest to the west. I mean here the people, not the government. Just look at Taiwan. Japan and Korea rely on government intervention and tend to have large conglomerates. The Chinese have always seemed to have a more entrepreneurial spirit. China, free from the CCP and working within the rules based international system, could be a great contributor. Let's hope it happens soon. Otherwise the world may well become used to not dealing with China, which would mean dire things for the Chinese people.

@SeattlePioneer I have read that China as a unified entity only existed for a small minority of its existence. I don't know what the percentage is. China has gone through many warlord periods. The period from the fall of the Qing dynasty to the takeover by the CCP was one such period. Sun Yat-Sen never controlled the whole territory. Actually, the Republic of China controlled a relatively small territory. Mao, for example, was really just another warlord. Both Sun and Mao were ideological warlords. The rest were not. As for China at over 1B people being too big to govern, there may be some merit in that. I hear all kinds of things about how China might break up. One thing i saw not long ago was that there were people in Shanghai that wanted to break from CCP control and ally with Taiwan. In general, the south has been more outward facing because of their geography. Who knows what the future will bring. Let's just hope it is good for the people of China and the world.
