It seems that the Fujian might have copied the propulsion system of the Soviet/Russian carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, which burns "bunker oil" and also requires a support ship to follow it (when it sails, which it hasn't in a long time). In fact, one time the Admiral Kuznetsov had to ask the US to help tow it when its engines broke down.
