Unless there is sufficient storage capacity, solar will not replace fossil fuels or nuclear. The cost of that storage far outstrips the cost of the solar cells. Just look at places like Germany. They have installed a lot of "new energy" production. Yet, because they shut down their nuclear plants, they are now burning more coal. Their coal is lignite, which is the dirtiest type. On top of that, they already have very high-cost electricity. Many of their industries have moved to places like the US, where electricity is a lot cheaper and where natural gas is also cheap, and abundant. This whole new energy transition is very poorly thought out. The failure of some big players in the wind turbine industry lately has shown this.
