China has never been that powerful, and it has not been technologically advanced for several centuries. Over the last two hundred years or so, China's external trade was effectively controlled by small European countries and Japan. The last time China projected power was in the 15th century. They are also totally dependent on foreign inputs for their industries and food production. If the west is forced to isolate China, they will starve in short order. They will also deindustrialize. As a market, China is a joke, and is in rapid decline. So, yes, they need to show some humility.

@saltapozo Europe has been dependent on the US for over a century. We look at China today as the world's factory. By 1900 that was the US, and I believe the percentage was higher than China's today. In both World Wars it was the US that was the decisive factor. And of course, in the Cold War it was the US that protected Europe from the Soviets with a massive troop presence and nuclear weapons. So, nothing new here.

@GoPoundSalt Wow! You need to read some history books.

@saltapozo Well put.

@saltapozo Well, today is not that time.

@saltapozo I am not exactly sure what you mean. I expect it has to do with aging of the European population. Is that correct?

@saltapozo You may be excused for saying this if your native language is not English. The term "baby boomers" refers to a massive number of babies born in a short time after WWII. This did not just happen in the US. It is a moniker for a generation, not a description of their current state. It is like Gen-Z, or other such labels for a generation. You could say "elderly baby boomers", but they will always remain baby boomers.

@saltapozo Come on man! That is the most ignorant statement I have read in a very long time. In terms of societal and political development, China has basically not progressed at all. In the next step, they will regress back to where they were at the beginning of the 20th century at the end of the Qing dynasty. Think warlords. Economically, it is only with western help that they developed at all. By not adopting some of the essentials of the western system, such as rule of law and private property rights, they have condemned themselves to regress back to where they started. It doesn't help that they have a doctrinaire Marxist-Leninist-Maoist economic illiterate running their economy now.

@saltapozo Well, if you believe that you will believe anything.
