You have to realize that the whole communist program was based on taking. This was true in the Soviet Union as well as other countries, like China, Cuba and Venezuela. The leaders, Lenin, Mao, Castro and Maduro built their followings on a message of taking what the rich and middle class had. Marx thought that the socialist revolution would start in the developed countries with a well-established industrial proletariat. He was thinking of Germany the UK and the US. The thing is life in an industrial job in a city was better than life on the farm as a tenant farmer. The poor peasants in these places thought that they would own the property that was taken, that is why they followed the communist leaders. Later, they found out the truth, but it was too late.
