  1. Tesla has the correct approach. Just look at it this way, humans, who can be very good at driving, use just their eyes as a sensor. The potential problem with humans has nothing to do with their ability to drive or any deficiency with their sensors. Problems generally arise when the human is distracted, takes attention away from the road (my car, an ICE vehicle, actually has a sensor that warns me if I am doing that), or just does something dumb (not an unusual occurrence). The idea of a self-driving car is to avoid these shortcomings. Huawei's approach requires the fusion of many sensors. I have worked with this in the aerospace environment and have taught it in technical courses. I know how difficult it can be. Considering the level of technology in China vs. the west, I doubt they can do a credible job.

  2.  @crunchyfrog555  Oh, come on man. I have been driving for half a century, and have had two accidents, both caused by mechanical failures. These failures were not something a self-driving technology could avoid. I also know lots of people who have similar driving experiences. If a large number of people can go that long without a driver induced accident, then I call that a success. As for Tesla's technology, do you have data on that? I am asking sincerely. Sources and numbers. I have to admit, few of the Tesla drivers I know or have run across, use the feature, and it is generally not because they had a problem, but because it is new, and I guess can be somewhat scary.

  3. You do realize that the whole idea of autonomous driving pushed by EV companies is at best a marketing ploy and at worst a scam. I tend to see it as the later. EVs are still too expensive and still have major drawbacks (range and charging) to replace ICEs. Autonomous driving features are just a cynical ploy to justify the higher price. On the autonomous driving front, there is no reason that contemporary ICEs cannot implement the same technology. The plain fact is that most use a "fly by wire" approach and could easily be adapted to computer-controlled driving. I have a 2015 American made SUV with automatic low speed collision avoidance braking, for example. There are ICEs with automated parking. This is not that new. Basically, little or nothing would have to be changed in the autonomous driving system to adapt it to ICEs. So, given all that, why do you think ICE vendors aren't jumping on the autonomous driving bandwagon?
