This is a lot like the Winter War against Finland. It also calls to mind the reason the Egyptians kicked out the Soviets, made peace with Israel and allied with the US. I was doing work at the Command and General Staff College just after that. What I hear the General saying is that Russian doctrine is no different from Soviet doctrine. This is my understanding as well. I also worked on the Army tactical command and control systems modernization. This was around the time leading up to the Gulf War, where these systems were first used. The Russians are also still using T72 tanks. They talk about all their new stuff, but the bulk of their equipment is the older stuff. Unless they use nukes, they are a paper tiger.
