Student loans are stupid! Most are for people who take degrees in the social sciences. I had a friend whose son took out $200k in loans for an English degree. His solution to that was to have his son go back and get a "real" degree which would earn him a real income. My friend had plenty of money. These are the people we are thinking of forgiving loans for. In those fields where people will not be able to repay their loans, we don't need a lot of graduates. Let those who can pay go into them. We need to limit the program. We put away enough money for our kids to go to school debt free. In fact. because of scholarships, they had money left over. Lots of it. Today is not when I started university, I had a part time job, paying minimum wage. I earned twice the amount of tuition and books. Think about that. I went to a very good state university near to where i lived. Why is tuition so high today? In fact, that university is still very cheap compared to most for in-state students. What is going on here?
