When I was living in the UK I was a Governor of our school. There, each school had a Board of Governors. A great concept. We had two committees. One for resources (finance; I was the Clerk of that committee) and one for curriculum. This was very much controlled by the parents. When we moved back to the US we were very involved in the school. We went to every parent teacher day. We were very involved in our children's schoolwork. We were involved in their extra curricular activities, including the committees that supported them. Many of the parents of our schools were so involved. It is essential!
