I remember in the 1970s, in Georgetown in Washington, DC., where cops pulled over a car on the main drag (M Street, I think). One got out of the car with his gun drawn and approached the vehicle. The other had his gun drawn and was behind the door of the police car as backup. These were dangerous times. Police cars were being blown up by grenades when going down alleys. That is why they stopped doing that and would bring in helicopters with the artificial daylight in alleys when chasing suspects. I know. I was born there and lived in the city for a while.
