Is Obama ignorant of the history of the US? This has never been a united country on domestic issues. There has always been a partisan divide. People seem to view the late 1940s and 1950s as "normal". It was not. Read history, listen to some of the excellent podcasts out there. Any open democracy will have people on opposite sides of the political divide. I have seen it from all sides, and I have been around long enough to see lots of it. I have lobbied in my state and in Washington, DC. Heck, I was born in Washington, DC. I could go on and on (but to spare you I won't). The political divide in natural and has existed from the beginning of the republic. Get over it!
